things i love thursday - the running and travel edition

japan - my planning for my august trip is in full swing, after spending plenty of time thinking about if i should go or not, i'm going. i'll be spending time in tokyo, kyoto, osaka and surrounds. if you want to catch up when i'm in the country, let me know!

canada - aha! my whv has been approved and i'll be heading off to live in Toronto for two years this October/November. yes, that will be two back to back winters, i know i know.

downsizing - i'm well aware that i came into NZ with a day pack and a back pack, and i'm hoping to head to canada that way as well, although i will be leaving a box of things i can't bear to give, sell, leave behind with one of my housemates to post when i am set up in Toronto, or at least have an address. Everything else? hello trade me! i'm going to slowly downsize during the year, rather than try and do it in six weeks like i did when i moved over from Australia.

chocolate - or rather lack of it, this i do not love. but with the no sugar rule firmly in place, except for two events, lone easter bunny next weekend, and a rest during trip japan. it along with a few other changes will hopefully have a good effect on my pcos.

running - my 4th half marathon is in a couple of weeks!

things i love thursday - the nz edition

le'esscience - Gillian's sleep blend is da bomb, along with her massages.

cheese english muffins - I only buy them twice a year, because it takes me less than 48 hours to get through a packet.

afghan biscuits - we never had bought biscuits growing up due to finances, home made biscuits could be found on holiday at my Nan's though. These are the only biscuits worthy, in my opinion, oh an maybe coconut cremes. (also bought around twice a year).

air new zealand - best airline ever. they have all these awesome deals, their staff are great (besides the one chewing gum on my flight from Dunedin a few weeks back). They have also just started introducing ginger cookies on their flights, very helpful if you suffer from motion sickness! If I wasn't moving, I would work for them*

wellington - it's farking hilly i tell you, but you know what after all that hill running that auckland bridge crossing during the marathon didn't bother me at all. I was like 'what steep section, where?' Also if you can run here, you can run anywhere - however i have never run in snow. But have almost been blown away by gale force winds whilst running several times, this is normal, and horizontal rain.

*I got the all clear to move to Canada! Late October/early November and I am all systems go to Toronto! I know no one there, so if you know a blogger, prospective flatmate or employer, let me know!

A hearty matter

In the lead up and during my marathon i'll be raising money for the Heart Foundation. There is a personal reason I chose them as my charity, that I don't normally talk about. But now may be a good time.

My grandfather died suddenly in his late forties, my father the eldest of three boys was 16 when my grandfather died. My grandfather, Richard had complained of chest pain for months on end, and had been to the doctor, they thought it was indigestion, it wasn't. One morning, my Nan went to wake Richard, as he would normally have gotten up by now (she has slept in one of the spare rooms that night - as she had been fighting a cold). So she went in to wake him up, and we wasn't breathing. He had suffered a massive heart attack. My father came into the room, obviously aware that something was wrong, and helped my Nan perform CPR whilst the ambulance arrived, it was no use.

My grandmother was left a widow with three young boys to raise, and she did a brilliant job. Whilst my Dad and I don't see eye to eye on a lot of things. I understand that day and losing his father so young, would have had a massive impact on his life, as it did for my family. Although I never knew my grandfather, anyone I have ever spoken to about him, adored him, he was well respected in the community, and loved his family. I am sad that I never got to know him, and I wish my Dad would have spoken more about Richard when I was growing up, but it is obviously still very painful, even now.

It is a cause very close to me, and if you have a spare few dollars and would like to donate that would be great. If you would prefer to donate to a charity close to your heart or just do something for someone else if you don't have the spare funds, then please do. Any gesture, financial, or through action would be greatly appreciated.

Things I Love Thursday

that tomorrow is friday- yes really, it's been one of those weeks

peonies - they smell like love, if I had to describe love as a smell, it's peonies, hands down

auctions - i've bought a stack of old prints of an auction site this week, to make my place more like what it is, home. it's been rather neglected.

early mornings - once I'm up and out it's fine, it really is.

tacos - they were mentioned on an old friend episode i was watching tonight, i'm going to make them for dinner tomorrow! whoot!

mangoes -they are just so damn tasty people!

Things I Love Thursday

bagels- a group of us at work have 'bagel thursday' we go out for lunch and have bagels. it's a little ritual, sometimes it is followed by pub friday, but at the moment we have rather heavy workloads, so bagels it is.

home grown spinach - we planted one large pot of spinach and I am having some of it with my lunch salad tomorrow. I brought a bunch around to a friend when I went to her house for dinner, and having had it today with her lunch she assures me that it is tasty.

birthdays - one of my best friends here in NZ in celebrating her 30th tomorrow, party on!

le gym - my physio said I can go back and do walking and some swimming each day but not to overdo it. I was starting to climb the walls a bit and missed gym. I forgot however to ask about wearing a backpack when heading to gym, so for now I will need to settle with careful packing.

warmer weather - i made up my bed this evening and removed the electric blanket, maybe the last week of semi warm and strange light humid weather has given me hope!

Things I Love Thursday

Inspired by Green Ink -

nectarines - I went for a random supermarket shop today, just to pick up a few things, and saw them almost as soon as I walked into the fruit and vegetable section. They are my favourite fruit. I also bought a mango for $4 ... hopefully it is worth it.

planning holidays - one of my housemates is planning to celebrate her 30th in Samoa in late April next year. I simply cannot wait!

wine - after years of just not really having much of an interest I am finding my own palate, and am enjoying trying all sorts of wines. I have discovered I really like Gewertzamine having really never tried it before.

lazy music afternoons - even though housebound by my back for most of last week. I did enjoy spending last sunday laying on my bed with the sun shining through and just listening to a random selection of tunes. Nothing fancy, it was just nice.

brunch - my favourite weekend meal, any meal really. I used to love french toast, then one of my best frieds here made me her home made recipe, and nothing comes close. So now it just depends what looks good on the menu - at the moment it's pancakes.

*On another note all together. I have been counting calories this week, not reverting from my normal meals really and just seeing if things need to be altered. YES. I keep hitting over the calorie mark but even more eye opening, is the fat content of my diet at the moment. It was way much higher than I thought, way high people, way!
